Electric workbars – Fix the circuit breaker
In the first workaround, the person used a piece of cable to fix the circuit breaker. Fixing the circuit breaker is very important in order not to force the cables stuck in the pole of the circuit breaker, avoiding eventual installation failures and accidents
We can see that this is a 125A circuit breaker and if any of these breaker cables are forced and come loose, the damage from closing an electrical arc or a short circuit is great! Not to mention the danger of someone being close and an accident that can be fatal.
Electric gambiarras – Badly installed socket
This gambiarra contains serious errors that refer to the following image, where it has three things wrong and many people when seeing this image may think that everything is right and that there is no error, when in fact it has as an error:
Installation error – Using the PP cable
The first mistake that we can observe is the use of PP cable for installations in conduits, because in fact this is a big problem when carrying out a maintenance where you need to change one of the cables for example, because it will be necessary to change both cables because in the cable PP the two cables are together.
Installation error – Copper exposed
The second error is the amount of copper exposed on the cable. Exposed part of the cable is very dangerous, because it increases the chances of someone accidentally touching this part of copper, which can cause a serious accident or even in certain situations a short circuit.
Installation error – Lack of grounding
The third error is the lack of the grounding cable, that is, the socket without the grounding cable , which is extremely dangerous and the standard does not allow. Grounding and equipotentialization are fundamental actions to ensure the proper functioning of the protection systems against electric shocks, overvoltages, lightning strikes and electrostatic discharges.
Electric gambiarras – Fixing the ceiling fan
In this gambiarra we have a great risk of accident, after all who made this installation used some type of epoxy putty to attach the base of the ceiling fan. No doubt this is very negligence on the part of those who performed the service, because the chances of the vibration of the fan breaking this mass is very high, where the risk of an accident is very high. When installing a ceiling fan, care must also be taken when attaching the fan.
Electric workbenches – Cable stripped from sockets
Another gambiarra that unfortunately is very common is the use of stripped cable to make direct derivations of the sockets, that is, the person responsible for this activity did not use a jumper or did not perform the direct derivation of the cables.
The chance of this workaround causing a short circuit is very high, especially when there are some broken wires that leave the ends in the conductor. As we can see, in this same image there is another absurd error, which is the use of masking tape to insulate the cables.
Electric gambiarras – Socket in the shower
This gambiarra is very controversial among electrical professionals, which is the use of an outlet to turn on an electric shower .
The standard is very clear in relation to this practice, prohibited for several reasons, the main reason being the overload that causes heating and melting of the cables, plugs and outlet. To check this information, simply refer to the NBR-5410 standard in item 220.127.116.11.
Despite this ban, there are still many electricians who insist and say it is possible, as they claim it is just an exaggeration of the standard. Many are concerned only with the power the plugs need to support, but the risks go far beyond that!
