Electrical and electronic components on the control boards
There is a great variety of electrical and / or electronic components that are used in the boards to create circuits that are capable of handling lighting, machines and even more complex processes such as industrial ones.
In this article we will create a list with the most used components and a short description of the operation and / or applications of each device.
On this occasion we will classify the components according to the function they perform, be it protection, control, such as visual indicators, etc.
Indicators and buttons
These components serve to help operators to activate or deactivate parts of the processes, the indicators are used to have a feedback of the variables and important point whether they are working correctly or there is a problem.
Buttons and indicators
We can find different sizes, colors and shapes, but their main function is to activate or deactivate actuators such as hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, parts of the processes, etc.
This button has practically only one function and therefore all the stop buttons are similar in terms of physical construction. This only has one function and is to completely stop any type of process.
These more than being buttons are knobs that can have various positions and each of these can represent different parts of the process, for example;
one position is used to do the cycle manually, with another position we do it automatically and another is used to enter the washing stage
They are known as pilot lamps and these are used in different ways, either as indicative to know where in the process we are, to know if the controlled variables are in the appropriate values, to know if there is any problem in the system, etc. .
This is one of the most advanced elements that we can find in an electrical panel since it has an endless number of applications, mainly it is used to start the different stages of the processes, to manually activate or deactivate an actuator and it is also used to monitor the controlled variables.
Protective electrical components serve to prevent major or most expensive devices from breaking down, whether due to overcurrent, malfunction, variations in the voltage line, etc.
It serves to protect the engines. When the current exceeds its normal values, it trips, preventing the motor coils from burning due to excess electrical current. Read more…
These protection devices can be found in practically any electrical installation since they are responsible for supervising short circuits and over currents (it is a rise in current which causes heating of the components). Read more…
It is responsible for monitoring the input current against the output current and when it detects a slight drop it is triggered since this indicates that it is leaking somewhere. These leaks can be dangerous as a person could be electrocuted to death. Read more…
Thermistors are practicing temperature sensors that are placed on the coils of the motors to monitor the changes that may occur, when these coils reach a certain degree of heat the thermistor trips to protect. Read more…
Fuses are practically one of the oldest and simplest components that we can find, they have a filament inside that works in such a way that when the current withstand is exceeded, even for just an instant, it breaks and opens the circuit. . Read more…
These serve to protect electric motors from overcurrents, failure of one of the phases and load differences between phases.
The control elements of an electrical panel are used to control all the process variables, be it temperature, time, liquid levels, pressures, etc.
We can find two main types of timers in terms of their operation refers to those of normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC), each works in an opposite way.
When the configured time expires, the NO contacts close and the NC contacts open. Read more…
These are practically switches that can be activated or deactivated remotely by means of electricity, these are used to activate power circuits with large amounts of current. Read more…
The relays have practically the same operation as the contactors with the only exception that they can handle less current and are used in the command or control circuits. Read more…
These devices are the heart of the electrical boards of the industrial processes since they process all the signals and decide what actions to take according to the programs that were recorded. Read more…
They are in charge of converting signals so that the control devices can work with the signals more easily, for example, we have a temperature sensor that depending on the reading sends a resistive value, but in order to process this signal we must convert it to a standard of 4-20ma current, this is where these converters come in.
These devices work in conjunction with a sensor and an actuator. The sensor is the one that sends the information to the temperature control so that it can process it and send a correction signal to the actuator.
