The first safety tip that we should take is with the tools, because even using the tools that were mentioned earlier they can offer risks, due to the tool quality. Take care, use proper keys to be used in electricity.

The multimeters and test keys are tools that we must be aware of, use categorized tools, do not use multimeters and pirated test keys, the ones that we find that any electrical supply store. These tools do not have any type of protection against any transients in the network or any other events that may bring risks.

After identifying each of the conductors and before installing the outlet, turn off the circuit breaker for the outlet to be installed, if the installation does not have a circuit distribution board (QDC) that is mandatory, turn off the general circuit breaker located on the input pattern, in addition, make sure that the circuit breaker will not be turned on by other people, in this case we recommend using a padlock.

After you have turned the circuit breaker off, use the multimeter to make sure there is the voltage at the point where it will be installed in the outlet. It seems that doing this type of test after turning off the circuit breaker is unnecessary, but not really! This redundancy is essential, as there is a possibility of some faults, such as defects in the circuit breaker or the circuit has been wrongly identified.

Now that we know which tools we should use and safety measures, it is important to note that in certain regions of the country the voltage between phase and neutral can be 127V or 220V.

In all the following cases it will be necessary to use the test switch, so that we can identify which or which phase conductors will be.

There are several ways to obtain a 220V outlet, the first of which is according to the dealer’s availability, without the need for other equipment or machines. The diagram shown in image 1 shows two ways to obtain the 220V voltage at the sockets, in which case the installation is the same for both cases.

As in the diagrams in the image below, we can see that it is enough to connect the phase and phase or phase and neutral cables to the terminals at the ends and the ground cable to the central terminal. Therefore, cut the cables using cutting pliers, so that there is enough cable leftover to perform the installation, then strip the cables, using stripper pliers, fix the cables in their respective terminals and tighten the screws using a screwdriver or Philips depending on the screw.

Another possibility that we have to obtain a 220V socket is using a transformer, this type of connection we usually use in installations that have only 127V phase voltage and some device or equipment is necessary to connect 220V.

Making this type of connection is very simple, since finding transformers with this relationship is very common, in addition there are many transformers for smaller loads, with specific applications, which simply need to be plugged into the outlet that will have a voltage of 220V, such as for example the transformer in the image below:

Important notes:

As already mentioned, performing this type of installation is relatively simple, but we have to be careful with the dimensioning of the circuit breakers , conductors and outlets, in this situation we recommend that you consult a qualified electrician to perform the proper dimensioning.

It is important to highlight that a transformer can both increase the voltage as well as reduce it, this will depend on where we are applying the voltage to the transformer, that is, if we use the transformer the wrong way the voltage can drop in half, so the importance of knowing the transformer and having a multimeter at hand.

Regarding the installation of the transformer to acquire a voltage of 220V, it is necessary to pay attention to the power that the transformer is capable of supporting, and even so, it does not help the transformer to support higher powers if the outlet and the circuit cannot support it.

We should not connect equipment or devices at the output of the transformer that have greater power than the power we connect to the 127V socket, even though we know that the current at 220V is less than at 127V with a load of the same power, that is, if a general purpose socket supports up to 100 W, at the output of the transformer we must connect a load of up to 100W, even if the transformer supported powers of 1,000W for example.
