LED panel or LED board?

The fixtures which are also known as LED boards or LED panel, are relatively new technologies! They have come to bring not only energy savings but also aesthetics for electrical installations. As much as the board and the LED panel are similar, they are different. The World of Electrical in this content presents the differences between LED boards and LED panels, in addition to explaining what are their benefits and how to extend their useful life. So come on guys!

Both the LED panel and the LED board use an acrylic diffuser to provide uniform lighting and better board design. The LED boards usually have a driver (source), which usually has an output voltage of 12 volts and is powered with 127V or 220V.

LED Plates

The LED plates illuminate very well! For you to be aware, a 20 × 20 piece is capable of emitting the same amount of lumens as a 40 × 40 LED panel. The technology of LED plates came to replace the current luminaires, precisely because of their energy efficiency, longer life and an excellent lighting capacity, that is, it ends up becoming a good investment in the long term.

A very important difference between the LED board and the LED panel is the way in which the LEDs are distributed in the luminaire. This luminaire model is made with LED plates, which are evenly distributed throughout the plate. Meanwhile, the LED panels actually have LED strips.

LED panels

It is very common for people to confuse an LED panel with an LED plate, even some think that the LED strips installed on the panels are like the LED plates, but in fact it is not so!

LED panels usually have a lower brightness compared to LED panels of the same power. Another difference is that they generally have a relatively lower durability quality, as they can lose their luminous flux over time.

The LED panels offer good lighting on site, in their manufacture a lesser amount of materials is used. This favors having less need for, in addition to making it more economical because it manages to convert much of its electrical energy into light.

LED panel and LED board: Advantages

The LED panel and LED board can emit cold white light, which ends up becoming very efficient for environments that need intense lighting such as hospitals, laboratories, workplaces and others. There are several panels and plates that emit warm light, producing a much better feeling of comfort.

Another advantage of LED panels and boards in general is their energy efficiency, which consequently ends up generating much lower electricity consumption. This feature is considered to be one of its greatest advantages.

White light temperature: Cold

Lighting with cold white light is ideal to facilitate the perception of dirt in the environment, so it is used in places where activities that require attention are carried out, such as laboratories and hospitals.

White light temperature: Neutral

The light that is intermediate between cold white and warm white is neutral white, also known as daylight. This type of lighting is widely used in shopping malls and restaurants.

White light temperature: Warm

Warm white light is ideal for resting environments. So it is a great option for places where we want to create a more relaxed and cozy environment.

Tips on how to extend the life of the LED luminaire

Some care in how to install and use the luminaires makes all the difference in the product’s life! Below are some tips so that the life of lighting systems is not reduced:

  • Do not install the product in a place with a temperature below or above the brand recommendation
  • Do not install dimmer in a non-dimmable product
  • Do not use a driver from brands other than the original product

Below is a video from the World of Electrical that teaches step by step how to install an LED panel.
