It took man thousands of years to reach the creation of the electric lamp, but that all changed in 1879, when the American inventor Thomas Edison, after carrying out approximately 1,200 experiments, managed to get the electric lamp to work.
As time went by, man developed new technologies, thus achieving improvements in electric lamps, even creating new models of lamps such as led lamps, fluorescent lamps and etc. Thus also appearing different types of lamps, some simpler others more sophisticated as for example, ceiling light, lamp, chandelier and etc. In this way we will show you how to install a light fixture and some precautions we should take when installing a light fixture.
The luminaires are lamp holders composed of one or more receptacles, used to connect the lamps to their respective circuits, so that the luminaires can be used in various environments such as corridors, living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms and etc. . Having different functions such as protecting the lamp or people, decorating, finishing and etc. There are numerous models of luminaires and the most common types to be installed are:
The ceilings are relatively simpler with the main function of finishing, and can be found in two variations, which is to embed and to overlap, and because of their affordable price they are prevalent in residential and building installations. Overlapping ceiling lights are used in homes with concrete ceilings, usually for lamps with E-27 receptacle, but can also be found on led signs. The recessed ceiling lights are used in plaster ceilings and are made of square, circular or rectangular led plates for example.
The sconces are installed on the internal or external walls of the homes, they have the function of using the wall itself as a light beater, creating a diffused light and providing visual comfort.
The lamp can be used with its base resting on the table or on the floor and does not need to be installed directly in the electrical installation, as it has plugs to be connected to the outlet. The lamp is widely used on the table because it has a dome, which serves as a screen for the light, reducing the lighting area, which makes it possible to use it when reading and doing schoolwork, for example.
The pendant is a type of lamp that is fixed to the ceiling by chains, PP cables or ropes for example, thus allowing the lamp to be suspended. With structures and materials a little more expensive focused on decorations or even to get out of sameness, in addition to allowing the direction of the light focus and the installation of more lamps in a single point.
The chandeliers are focused on decorating and lighting large and luxurious environments, and may have a generally higher price. They are suspended from the ceiling and can have several “arms”, making it possible to have more than one lamp or candle for example, but currently the use of candles in chandeliers is not common. Currently, chandeliers are complex arrangements of glass, crystal or other decorative materials.
How to install light fixture?
It is important to be aware of the power of the lamps to be installed in the luminaire, as some luminaires make it possible to have more than one lamp in a single point, in this case it is important to dimension the cables and the circuit breaker again, to perform the replacement, if necessary.
After knowing a little about the luminaires and necessary care, we will install the luminaire. For safety, turn off the general circuit breaker in your home or the circuit breaker referring to the circuit that will be used to install the luminaire, so that there is no electrical accident or short circuit when installing the luminaire. Our luminaire model is a ceiling light with a glass to filter the light from the lamp and making it possible to have two lamps at the same point.
The first step is to remove the glass from the luminaire to connect the lamps and also not to break the glass at the time of installation. There are some plastic clips that make the fiction of the glass in the luminaire, so to remove the glass make a little pressure out on the clips so that the glass is removed.
After removing the glass from the luminaire, go to the connection of the cables that will be connected to the receptacles of the luminaire. Notice that the luminaire has two receptacles with brown and blue cables, the cables of the receptacles are separated to be operating the lamps with different switches.
In this installation the lamps will be activated by a switch, for that it is necessary to join the two blue cables of the receptacles and then amend with the neutral of the installation and insulate the seam with electrical tape.
Now we go to the connection of the brown cables in the return, first join the brown cables of the receptacles, then amend in the return of the lighting point and insulate the seam with electrical tape.
